Maybe the economic crisis make this Christmas cold not only the weather but also the festival feeling, you may still need to attend evening parties of friends,if you do not have rich money or you want to save money, why not consider to make a cocktail dress for yourself?
You want to choose a short cocktail dress that looks fashionable. In fact, you should ensure that it is fashionable for your body type. Not every woman can wear every type of formal dress. Many different dress styles exist to fit every figure. While some women could pass as a supermodel, most have a regular figure.
Making your own pattern is very time consuming. It takes a lot of skill and practice. If you want to go the long route in designing your dress you will have to draw your design, drape fabric on a dress form (dress dorms cost several hundred dollars) and make a pattern from this.
1.Take a tour through some of your favorite celebrity cocktail dresses shops to get an idea for what is currently in style.
2.Determine what body type you have, which will help you decide how to design a cocktail dress for your body.
3.Browse a few fashion catalogs for further ideas, focusing on the colors and shapes that will complement your body the best.
4.Sketch a few ideas in a sketch pad, using drawing pencils from an art supply store.
5.Measure your hips, waist, bust, thighs and shoulders to ensure that the dimensions are correct for your cocktail dress.
6.Design any additional garments that might go with your cocktail dress, such as a shawl, pendant, bow, wrap or pair of shoes.
7.Hire a seamstress to sew your new cocktail dress, or do the sewing yourself if you think you can handle it.
If you want to take a faster less time consuming route find a dress of which you like the basic shape. Use a seam ripper to disassemble the dress. Once you have the dress in its raw unsewn parts you can use it as a pattern to follow. You can add length by cutting your fabric several inches lower than the original dress or make it shorter by cutting your fabric shorter than the original. Or you could start with a very basic dress pattern and add to that.
Sometimes, the cocktail dresses 2012 on the hanger at your favorite boutique just doesn’t cut it. If you have a flare for design, why not put together your own cocktail dress? You don’t need to be a design-school graduate to make this happen, but you will need an active imagination and plenty of inspiration.
